Amethyst is a type of Quartz, a silicon dioxide with a trigonal crystal system and a hardness of 7. Its color ranges from pale lavender to deep purple. Highly sought after due to its beautiful color, which comes from impurities such as iron or other minerals.

Amethyst has a long history of human use. It was considered a powerful antidote against drunkenness. In ancient Greece and Rome, they used to drink wine in Amethyst glasses to get less drunk and more enlighten.
