Fluorite

Fluorite is a calcium fluoride mineral (hardness 4) from the halide group, commonly forming cubic or octahedral crystals in hydrothermal veins with Quartz, Calcite, and Barite.

It is known for its wide range of colors—purple, green, blue, yellow, clear, pink, and black—caused by trace elements and natural radiation. Its glow under UV light inspired the term *fluorescence*. Important deposits occur in Germany, England, China, South Africa, Argentina, and the USA.
